Google rolls out AI Mode Search agents for real-time web tracking

Google has started rolling out a new AI-powered Search feature that can watch the web on a user’s behalf and send updates when something changes, reducing the need to run the same search repeatedly.

The company is making the feature available through AI Mode to Google AI Ultra subscribers. First introduced at Google I/O 2026, the tools are called Information Agents and are designed to track topics across the internet and notify users when relevant developments appear.

Unlike a standard search, which requires users to return and look again for new information, the agents run in the background. Google said they can monitor blogs, news websites, social media posts, financial data, shopping information, and sports updates tied to a user’s request.

Users can turn on the feature in AI Mode with prompts such as "keep me updated on" or "alert me when." After that, the agent continues scanning the web and delivers a synthesized summary when new information is found.

Google has shown the feature with examples including apartment searches and product announcements. In one example, a user could set requirements for a rental apartment and get alerts when a matching new listing appears online. In another, an agent tracked announcements from athletes and notified users when new sneaker collaborations or signature shoe releases were revealed.

The company says the agents rely on reasoning capabilities to decide what information matters and when an update should be sent. The article says this differs from scheduled reminders in other AI tools, which usually check for updates at fixed intervals.

The rollout also reflects Google’s broader effort to shift Search from a tool that answers questions to one that works more proactively for users. Rather than manually searching for the same topic over and over, users can hand off monitoring tasks to AI agents that continuously scan the web.

For now, Information Agents are limited to subscribers of Google AI Ultra, Google’s premium AI plan priced between $99.99 and $199.99 per month, depending on the subscription tier. The feature is available across all AI Mode-supported languages and markets.

The launch signals Google’s growing push toward agentic AI systems that can perform tasks independently, a change the company says could reshape how users interact with search engines in the years ahead.
